Chelsea v Manchester United - Highlights

Manchester United lifted the Community Shield after beating Chelsea 3-0 in a penalty shoot-out at Wembley.

Ryan Giggs gave the Premiership champions the lead on 35 minutes, but Chelsea’s new signing Florent Malouda levelled just before the break when he shrugged off a challenge from Rio Ferdinand to finish neatly. The game finished 0-0 at full-time and with no extra time scheduled to be played, it was time for penalties.

United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar produced a hat-trick of penalty saves from Claudio Pizarro, Frank Lampard and Shaun Wright-Phillips, while Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney all scored from the spot to give Sir Alex Ferguson’s side their first silverware of the season.

Derby’s Davis picks up injury

Derby - Claude DavisDerby County defender Claude Davis will be assessed over the next few days after he suffered a hamstring strain.

Davis lasted 62 minutes of Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Espanyol before picking up the injury. The £3million signing from Sheffield United missed the recent pre-season games against Nottingham Forest and Crewe due to a virus.

No Portsmouth return for Yakubu

Portsmouth - Harry RedknappHarry Redknapp has denied reports that he has made a bid to bring Yakubu back to Portsmouth.

The Middlesbrough striker has been linked with a host of clubs including Birmingham City, and although Redknapp is still a fan of the powerful Nigerian, he has not made an approach.

“I like Yak, I signed him the first time round at Portsmouth and he was a good player for me,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

Dyer deal to West Ham collapses

Newcastle - Kieron DyerKieron Dyer’s move to West Ham United has fallen through after Newcastle United pulled the plug on the deal.

Dyer was set to complete his switch to Upton Park after agreeing personal terms and passing a medical, only for Sam Allardyce to cancel the transfer.

Birmingham cancel Ghaly deal

Spurs - Hossam GhalyTottenham Hotspur fans will be left gutted this evening after Birmingham City announced that they have cancelled the transfer of Hossam Ghaly.

The news surrounding the cancellation of the deal so far is short in detail, the only reason given is for “footballing reasons”, whatever that might be. Surely Bruce knew who he has signing and who Ghaly knew who he is signing for.
