Paul Scholes could miss the start of the Premiership season after Manchester United confirmed that he will undergo an exploratory knee operation.
Scholes injured his knee during the pre-season tour of Asia and returned home to Manchester five days early.

West Ham United have completed the signing of Freddie Ljungberg from Arsenal for a fee which could rise to £3million.
Ljungberg was Arsenal’s longest serving player after joining the club in 1998 for £3million from Halmstads, but has decided to follow Thierry Henry in leaving the Gunners.

Manchester United have sent Paul Scholes home from the pre-season tour of Asia due to injury.
The United midfielder missed the match against Shenzhen FC on Monday and the full extent of the injury is not known as yet, but he did undergo a scan on Sunday.

Wes Brown and Ryan Giggs are set to be offered new contracts at Manchester United.
Both players are entering the final year of their contracts with the Premiership champions, but chief executive David Gill insists there is no need to worry about rushing to get new deals sorted.
Talks are yet to begin with either player, but with both settled at Old Trafford, there is no chance of them going elsewhere.

Former Charlton Athletic loanee Zheng Zhi has claimed that Newcastle United and Birmingham City are interested in bringing him back to the Premiership in another loan deal.
The 26-year-old is currently playing his football for Shandong Luneng, but told reporters in Kuala Lumpur last week that he is interested in a move back to England.
